Amenities & Services Fee
What is the Amenities & Services Fee? The UWA Amenities & Services fee is a voluntary charge levied on students enrolling at UWA. Those students who elect to pay the annual fee will have access to the amenities and services which are funded by the income this fee supports. These include a range of recreational, sporting and educational facilities together with social, education and representation activities and services for the direct benefit of students at UWA. The UWA Senate and Executive is strongly in-favour of a amenities and services fee. The UWA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alan Robson, especially commends the Student Guild to all students and believes that you should make full use of the services offered by the Guild, and participate fully in activities organised by the Guild. "Since its establishment almost a century ago," Professor Robson said, "the University of Western Australia has created a culture of vibrant and responsible student participation on campus life." Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Winthrop Professor Bill Louden echoes Professor Robson's sentiments and cautions that the loss of these benefits would hit students hard, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and those from rural and remote areas who do not have ready support systems within the metropolitan area. Professor Seares continued "[UWA] clubs and societies can, and do, provide a life-line to students who do not have strong social networks when they first enter campus. At the same time they provide the quality of social interaction and an environment and opportunities for leadership development for which our campus is renowned."
