Search Instructions

Instructions for Searching the UWA Award Verification Service

The UWA Award Verification Service allows you to search for award details of graduates from UWA. UWA Senate Minutes contain publicly available details of all graduates from UWA, and the following information is available:

• Name of graduate (at the time of the award)

• Award Title

• Date of conferral of the award

Names of graduates within the database are as at the time of the award. Hence a person who has since married and adopted the family name of their spouse, or who has since changed their name, will only be able to be found by using their name as at the time of their graduation.

Some nationalities prefer to record their family name first and their given names second. If you are looking for Tong Lee try searching also for Lee Tong.

Family Name

Enter the family name here. For example to search for someone with a family name of Brown, enter Brown. Capitalisation (upper or lower case letters) does not matter so BROWN, Brown or brown will all work. The match will look for Brown as the last word in the full name (ie it looks for * Brown* at the end of the full name) so Smith-Brown will not be found. To find Brown anywhere in the name (eg Robert Browning, John Smith-Brown or James Brown) tick the Partial Match checkbox. Note that the Partial Match also finds matches where Brown is in the given names.

Given Names

Enter the given names here. For example to search for someone with a given name of John enter John. Capitalisation (upper or lower case letters) does not matter so JOHN, John or john will all work. The match will look for John as the first word in the full name (ie it looks for *John * at the beginning of the full name) so Johnathon will not be found. To find John anywhere in the name (eg Alan John Smith, Eric Johnson or John Brown) tick the Partial Match checkbox. Note that the Partial Match also finds matches where John is in the family name.

Award Title

You should only enter a search string in the Award Title if you need to narrow down the search, and then only enter a partial string (eg Arts to look for Bachelor of Arts). For example to search for award titles of Bachelor of Arts enter “Arts”. Capitalisation (upper or lower case letters) does not matter so ARTS, Arts or arts will all work. If you enter a part of an award title all award titles which contain the string of characters will be found. For example entering Education will return award titles of Bachelor of Education, Diploma in Education, Master of Education and Doctor of Education.

Year Range

The year range can be specified. Year From must be between 1917 and Year To. Year To must be between Year From and the current year.
