2009 RESULTS AND PROGRESS STATUS
The Faculty allocates progress status categories at the end of each year, taking into account a student's results in all units taken in that year.
UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

BACHELOR OF MEDICINE AND BACHELOR OF SURGERY
BACHELOR OF DENTAL SCIENCE
BACHELOR OF PODIATRIC MEDICINE
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS (MBBS, BDSc, BPodM)
To make satisfactory progress in a calendar year students must pass all units in which they are enrolled after the final date for withdrawal. See Faculty Rules Rule 8.2.2.14, Rule 8.2.7.16 and Rule 8.2.4.12 respectively.
GS – Good Standing
Students who make satisfactory progress and pass all units in which they are enrolled are given the status of 'Good Standing' and are permitted to re-enrol.
UNSATISFACTORY PROGRESS (MBBS, BDSc, BPodM)
OP – On Probation & EX - Excluded
Students who fail to make satisfactory progress may be assigned a progress status of 'On Probation' or 'Excluded'. Comprehensive information about these progress statuses can be found in the Faculty Rules 8.2.2.14 - 8.2.2.17 (MBBS), 8.2.7.16 - 8.2.7.18 (BDSc) and 8.2.9.11 - 8.2.9.13 (BPodM).
Students who have been assigned a progress status of 'On Probation' must repeat all units of the highest level that they have previously attempted.
Students who have been assigned a progress status of 'Excluded' are not permitted to enrol in their course for at least on academic year, and must re-apply to the Dean if they wish to be considered for admission back into their course.
Students who do not complete units to a total value of 96 points in three consecutive years of enrolment are assigned the progress status of 'Excluded' and are not permitted to re-enrol for further study in the course.
BACHELOR OF HEALTH SCIENCE
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS (BHSc)
The Faculty of Life and Physical Science Rules relating to satisfactory progress in the Bachelor of Science apply to the Bachelor of Health Science (Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Rule 8.2.4.12). Students must pass at least half their enrolled credit points in order to make satisfactory progress. Please refer to the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences Examination Results and Progress Status website.
GS – Good Standing
Students who make satisfactory progress by passing at least half of all units in which they are enrolled are given the status of 'Good Standing' and are permitted to re-enrol.
UNSATISFACTORY PROGRESS (BHSc)
OP – On Probation
Students will be assigned a progress status of 'On Probation' if they fail to make satisfactory progress in their first academic year and have a weighted average mark of at least 30 per cent. Students will be permitted to re-enrol, but may have conditions attached to their enrolment, such as a restriction in the number of enrolled units per semester.
Su - Suspended
A suspended student will not normally be permitted to re-enrol in their course for at least one year. Students will be assigned a progress status of 'Suspended' if they fail to make satisfactory progress in their first academic year and have a weighted average mark of less than 30 per cent OR if they have not made satisfactory progress in any other year.
Ex - Excluded
If a student has not made satisfactory progress while 'On Probation' then the student will have a progress status of 'Excluded' assigned. Students who are 'Excluded' are not permitted to enrol in their course.
POSTGRADUATE COURSES

SATISFACTORY PROGRESS
To make satisfactory progress, candidates must comply with University General Rule 1.2.1.29(1) and any additional requirements described in the Faculty Rules for each course.
GS – Good Standing
Students who make satisfactory progress are given the status of 'good standing' and are permitted to re-enrol.
UNSATISFACTORY PROGRESS FOR POSTGRADUATE COURSES
OP – On Probation
Excluded candidates who are permitted to re-enrol by the Dean will be awarded a progress status of 'on probation' and must comply with any condition placed on their re-enrolment by the Dean.
Ex - Excluded
The Dean, on the recommendation of the Postgraduate Board of Examiners in Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences may exclude a candidate who has failed to make satisfactory progress for a period of 12 months. An 'excluded' candidate will not be permitted to re-enrol in the course without the approval of the Dean.
DISSATISFACTION WITH AN ASSESSMENT RESULT AND/OR PROGRESS STATUS
In the case where there is dissatisfaction with an assessment result and/or progress status, students should refer to the following web address for the policy and procedures to follow: http://www.secretariat.uwa.edu.au/home/policies/appeals
there is a period of twenty days following the release of the relevant results/progress status in which formal appeal may be lodged.
